Are our treatments safe for pregnant and nursing mums?

Osteopathy for pregnancyOur drug-free treatment is, not only very safe, but a gentle way of dealing with all the physical aches and pains that occur as your body goes through the journey of pregnancy, giving birth and caring for your new infant. At this time, most mums’ are mainly concerned with the welfare of their baby, and they often overlook their own health and wellbeing. But at Avenue Health we believe that healthy, happy mums have healthy, happy babies.

Stresses and strains of pregnancy and giving birth

The stresses and strains that pregnant and nursing mums put upon their body is tremendous. Also, the release of the hormone Relaxin can make joints more mobile than usual and therefore more vulnerable to injury. Our treatment is very effective in treating women who have had a Caesarean section and have back pain as a result of overuse of the muscles in the lower back.

Whilst breast feeding

The process of breastfeeding inevitably leads to new mums having to maintain an unfamiliar posture for long periods several times throughout the day and night. The comfort of the baby whilst breastfeeding is more important to a new mum than their own and they often find themselves positioned awkwardly, not wanting to move for fear of disturbing their baby whilst its feeding. This is often worse during the night feeds. This posture often leads to achy, painful and restricted shoulders, neck, and upper back. Our treatments can really make a difference.

What and how we treat

Osteopathy for pregnancyWomen who are either pregnant or new mums can suffer with a range of aches and pains that our practitioners can really help with, such as:-

  • pelvic and sacroiliac pain
